Meet "Walker": Texas Trooper Rescues an Injured Owl on SH 118

Here's a West Texas story owl lovers will appreciate. A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper rescued an injured owl while giving an elderly couple a ride home, CBS7 (KOSA) reported, citing a Facebook post from the Texas Department of Public Safety – West Texas Region.

A roadside find

The trooper found the owl along State Highway 118, southbound toward Terlingua. He nicknamed the bird "Walker" after it tried to walk away from him, and in reference to "Walker, Texas Ranger."

From Alpine to El Paso

The trooper secured the owl and took it to the Alpine Highway Patrol office, where a Fort Davis wildlife biologist picked it up, according to DPS. The owl was then taken to Midland for further evaluation before going to El Paso for rehabilitation. The DPS post described it as another owl rescue by a DPS trooper.
