THE MARY CELESTE, 1872. Ten people vanished from a seaworthy ship. Their belongings were still aboard. Nobody has ever explained it.
This one is the craft that kept them alive — until it didn't.

No satellites. No radio. A sextant, a chronometer, a compass, and arithmetic. You take a sun sight at noon, you log your speed and heading every watch, and you calculate where you must be. Get it wrong and you find a reef in the dark.

Briggs was good at it. The ship was found six hundred miles from where she should have been — still sailing, still afloat, with nobody left to correct the course.
