Sarah Briggs was thirty. She sailed with her husband because she didn't want to be apart from him, and she brought their two-year-old daughter along. Her sewing machine was still on board when the ship was found.

In 1872, a widow wore woven hair — a lock from the dead, braided into a band and never taken off. This is that form in 316L stainless steel: a braid wrapping half the band, resolving into polished metal. Mourning made permanent, in a material that doesn't fade.
